British Sign Language Tutor
Salary range: £11.75 – £40.00 (dependent on skills, experience and task) To be reviewed
Purpose: To implement and deliver British Sign Language courses (Level 1, 2 and/or 3) in accordance
with the Signature framework and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. To deliver one or all of the following training courses to be held at One to One Support Services
• Signature NVQC 1, 2 and 3
• Deaf Awareness Training
• Bespoke Company Training
• BSL Taster Sessions
2. To maintain a clear and organised record of student files. These must be updated after any
contact or correspondence with student(s)
3. Maintain a good, supportive and constructive relationship with students with genuine
interest for their wellbeing and progression within the classroom.
4. To work a flexible hour’s system, this could include evenings and weekends dependent
upon contract. (Evening and weekend work will be arranged in advance to give maximum
notice to staff.)
5. Ensure teaching resources evolve and reflect current affairs and developments in BSL to
coincide with the development of One to One Training Academy teaching materials.
6. To comply and adhere to One to One Support Services policies and procedures, whilst
actively promoting the principles of equal opportunities and working in a manner that
maintains a safe, healthy and supportive environment for staff and learners at all times
7. To attend any meetings/supervisions/staff meetings that are requested by the MD or
Training Academy Manager.
8. To behave in a professional manner, maintaining positive working relations with clients and
respecting the confidentiality of any information given by learners or staff.
9. To wear uniform at all times whilst working and represent the companies’ best practices.
10. To improve skills and knowledge by participating in personal development if and where
appropriate whether this is through or outside of work.
11. To develop/ create teaching resources for BSL courses either online, on video, posters and
leaflets to sell the courses to other external companies
12. To keep up to date with new developments/issues within the field of teaching BSL and
related courses.
13. To travel to different training venues to deliver courses for external companies as and
when required
14. To assist in the marketing and promoting of One to One Support Services Company courses
and business in general.
15. Ensure that the learners’ interests are paramount at all times and support with any
communication needs where appropriate.
16. Maintain, log and report any incidents, accidents or near misses, failure in systems of work,
language needs, identified risks, or feedback to the Training Academy Manager where
required.
17. Establish a successful, working relationships in line with the employer’s code of conduct
and provide a purposeful learning environment ensuring diversity is valued and learners
feel secured within their environment. Be a positive role model to learners.
18. To set a good example through presentation and personal professional conduct
19. To complete relevant paperwork required in order to be paid which will be on a monthly
basis.
20. To keep the learning environment in a safe and tidy condition at all times, adhering to
Health and Safety practice. To maintain the classroom environment to a high standard.
21. To develop, maintain and stall all required lesson plans, schemes of work and class
resources on the premises at all times. To highlight any training resources required in a
timely fashion.
22. To determine learners readiness for Signature examination entry and actively promote
learners’ achievement of formal accreditations.
23. Any other duties deemed necessary by One to One Training Academy relating to the training
service.
24. Use of I.T in preparing resources and accessing the Signature website to download
documents, files and examination bookings as necessary
25. A firm understanding of Health and Safety and awareness of good practice.
26. To produce reports on learner progress as and when requested to do so by the Training
Academy Manager or the MD
27. To asses individual learners’ sign language skills and implement a training program
ensuring progression of learning
